QT Sydney
The QT Sydney is part of QT Hotels & Resorts – Australia’s premium leisure and designer lifestyle brand.
The QT Group currently owns 5 hotels in Sydney, Canberra, Falls Creek, Port Douglas and at the Gold Coast.
But the QT Sydney is what they call the Flagship Hotel for Australia.
This hotel is really a unique hotel that I have never seen before.
Melding two of Sydney’s grandest and most prominent historical buildings (the State Theatre and Gowings on Market & George Streets) into one hotel has involved a painstaking restoration process culminating in the creation of a bold and unique hotel experience.
Originally designed by famed department store architect Crawford H Mackellar, the Gowings Building
in Sydney’s CBD was constructed between 1912 and 1929.
The interwar commercial Palazzo style building is having its original gothic features thoughtfully restored to its former glory.
The Grand State Theatre is an extraordinary example of eclectic architecture, mixing cinema baroque with elements of Gothic, Italian and art deco design.
The building has a rich history of glamour with the theatre opening to a great fan fare in 1929 and its progressive multi-level shopping precinct opening the following year.
The interiors of the State Theatre feature rare original artworks and fixtures from William Dobell and Charles Wheeler, two of Australia’s most significant artists.
With the façade of the building returned to its former glory, the inside has retained its old world appeal through thoughtful integration of new technology, distinctive art mediums and cutting edge emerging artists.
The QT Sydney Hotel is located in the middle of the busy George street, opposite the Queen Victoria Building and the corner of Market Street and Myers Shopping mall.
As soon as you enter the hotel, it feels that you are part of a musical theater experience that brings you back to the 50’s.
It felt like entering a theater, but one where you can sleep as well.
As soon as we arrived at the main entrance our luggage was taken to our room.
We where escorted to the reception area at level 2.
In the elevator we where welcomed by the first gadget from the QT Sydney.
As soon as the doors close, a nice music tune starts and ends as soon as the doors open.
Every time a different sound in each of the elevators located in the hotel.
It was time to check in for our 2 day stay at The QT Sydney Hotel.
The Reception desk is located at level 2.
The check in was a personal experience, they took all the time and answered all our questions.
Mr Smulders we offer complimentary High Speed WIFI through out the hotel, so also in your hotel room.
We think that WiFi is a necessity for the modern traveller and it is now complimentary when you stay with us.
You have room 806, with views over George street and the Queen Victoria Building, enjoy your stay.
My wife and I where already overwhelmed by the great looks from the hotel, but now we expierenced that the service was excellent as well.
What would our room bring us for features my wife asked me.
It was time to see our hotel room 806.
On our way to our hotel room, the idea behind this Unique Boutique hotel became even more visible, as we entered the other part of the hotel.
The old architecture and Art Deco style was still visible all over the hotel and hallways.
Some hotel guests around us named it the Heaven of Sydney, and I have to agree with them.
Room 806
It was time to open the door and see what the surprise would be.
We did not entered a hotel room but a large suite.
Really amazing, a spacious suite with a Art Deco style looks.
All the things you need where their, from a flatscreen TV with satellite connection to free high speed internet.
From a nice seating are to a very nice mini bar.
But most imported a great bed that makes sure that you wake up keen and ready for another great day in Sydney.
But what about the bathroom.
A large power shower and a great bathtub.
The mirror can moved to the side, so you can have a view towards your own bedroom.
Never seen before, but another great gadget at this hotel.
It was time to explore the city but we went for a cup of coffee at the Parlour Lane Roasters first to plan our day.
The entry level of QT Sydney houses Parlour Lane Roasters.
An European style café with experienced baristas serving some of Sydney’s best and most uncomplicated coffee options.
After a great night sleep it was time for our breakfast.
Breakfast is served at Cowings Bar and Grill at level 3.
This how the restaurant looks empty.
But make sure you book your breakfast in time, because it is hard to manage a seat everyday.
Many guest and business men from outside the hotel, know what a special place this is and they also reserve a seat to enjoy a great breakfast.
The service is overwhelming and the menu card provides enough choice.
For us the Gowings Breakfast as we stay at the old Gowings Building.
A Wood Fire Grilled Farmhouse Breakfast with fresh Orange Juice.
Scrambled Eggs, Garlic, Thyme, Butter Mushrooms, Pork Bratwurst and Chipolata Chorizo Sausage, Roma Tomatoes, Double Smoked Bacon, Asparagus, Sourdough Bread.
And the price $ 22,00 is not bad at all for such a great breakfast.
QT SpaQ and Barber Shop.
Step into history at The Barber Shop.
Take a nostalgic trip as you enjoy a haircut, shave or beard trim.
Soothing hot towels prepare you for a smooth traditional shave, and you will leave feeling totally invigorated, ready for that important meeting.
You can have a Whisky or a Beer, that is how they started their days back in the 50’s.
If you are in Sydney, don’t forget to visit this unique Barber Shop.
The QT Sydney is an Excellent Luxury 5 star Boutique hotel.
For sure we will get back to this hotel, and I am sure we will have the great service as we had experienced during this stay.
It’s not only a great Business Hotel, but also very suitable for the leisure traveller, a great place to stay to visit this amazing city.
If you want to experience something special, make sure you stay at this hotel.
Let the staff and hotel surprise you, I am sure you like it as much as we did.

** We had to put in a rating for the swimming pool, but the QT Sydney has no swimming pool, so we have given them the average rating for all other services.
