SWISS Business Class Amsterdam Zurich Singapore

SWISS has added a new destination Singapore to there large route network last year.
Singapore, the city in the heart of South East Asia, is one of the world’s major commercial hubs.
Singapore officially the Republic of Singapore, is a sovereign city-state and island country in Southeast Asia.
Singapore lies off the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula and is world famous for the many shopping malls and great restaurants.

In 2012 I made my first SWISS flight and I was overwhelmed by the great service they provided.
As a daughter company from Lufthansa, I found the service from SWISS way better than the service provided by Lufthansa.
I think if you are a smaller company, it will be easier to do something special during the flights and provide a unique aspect to it.

As I had to make a special about Zurich Kloten Airport, I was lucky to fly SWISS Business Class again from Amsterdam.
I also had the opportunity for a quick visit at the SWISS Product Hub at Zurich Kloten Airport.
Maybe a great way to find out a little bit more about this great airline SWISS.
In the evening at 22.45, it was time to fly directly from Zurich to Singapore and than heading to Sydney Australia for another photo job.

SWISS has four direct flights everyday from Amsterdam to Zurich.
One at 07.00, 09.50, 14.50 and 20.00, so options enough to get your connecting flights to the world destinations from SWISS without any long transfer times.
I took the earliest flight at 07.00 hours with flight LX737 to Zurich.
Arriving at Zurich airport at 08.25 and in time for my meeting at 10.00.

The flight from Amsterdam to Zurich is just a short flight and the Business Class service from SWISS is great at Amsterdam Schiphol.
Special priority boarding lines for fast and efficient check in services.
I got invited to visited the Servisair Menzies Lounge and had a few pieces of fruit to start the day.
It was time to go onboard the Airbus A319 for the flight to Zurich.
And the service was great ride from the beginning, can I take your coat Mr Smulders, what do you want to drink?
As soon as we reach our cruising level we will start serving your breakfast, what do you want to drink with your breakfast?
As we left Amsterdam the breakfast was served and with the presentation from a nice chocolate, we already had to put our seat in the uprise postion for landing at Zurich Kloten Airport.
We even arrived a little before schedule at Zurich, so there was time enough to use the Swiss Business Lounge at the main terminal, before the meeting at 10.00.
Lately the lounge was updated with new seats, a big improvement compared with the other seats.

A great lounge, free WiFi, the tables are cleaned every minute by the professional staff and most of all a spacious Lounge for lots of people.

The catering service is fabulous, fresh soup, all kinds of snacks and lots of different drinks, including great wines.
The lounge can also be used if you are a Priority Pass Member.
Easy if you have to fly Economy Class and you would like to have access to the lounge.

It was time for my meeting at Zurich Airport, leaving the fabulous lounge was hard but I would be back later that evening.

How does your suitcase travel the highway of conveyor belts under the floors of Zurich airport.
Airports have systems installed that transports checked luggage from ticket counters to areas where the bags can be loaded onto airplanes.
This all happens in the basement of Zurich Airport.
Zurich Airport has many systems installed including some secret systems, some know systems are

• Detection of bag jams
• Volume regulation (to ensure that input points are controlled to avoid overloading system)
• Load balancing (to evenly distribute bag volume between conveyor sub-systems)
• Bag counting
• Bag tracking
• Redirection of bags via pusher or diverter.

If you think that the checked luggage not will be screened is wrong.

There are three levels of screening.
Level 1: Normall screening, if you pas this, the luggage goes directly to the aircraft.
Level 2: Needs more screening, for example they detected something, than it goes to a more efficient Xray machine.
Level 3: This is screened manually by the police and yes they find weird things. BBQ sets, Fireworks, Car Batteries and Guns.
At Level 3, I was not allowed to make any photo’s, as it is a high security area, but I have to say it’s very impressive how the Police officers work here.

SWISS Product Hub.

I also had the opportunity to visit the SWISS Product Hub at Kloten Airport, before my flight to Singapore would leave late in the evening.
An area that you normally won’t be able to visit.

The SWISS Product Hub is the place for the staff members to meat and check the latest details.
Here the Cockpit and Cabin crew will meet before and after the flight.

The crew can check the latest products and how they have to be displayed.

Now it was clear to me, why the service is that good if you travel with SWISS.
The personal touch makes SWISS what it is nowadays, an airline with a smile and not a machine.

It was time to get ready for the flight to Singapore and experience the SWISS Business Class product.
I still had about 2 hours to spend at the great Business Lounge before the flight would depart.
Now it was time to get to the gate for the flight to Singapore as the boarding was announced.

First- and Business Class passengers pre-board the plane.
The airbus 340-300 got 8 First Class seats and 47 Business Class seats.
The airline’s Airbus 340-300s, all received the new innovative Contour Vantage seats.
The seat is also notable for its use of a fully pneumatic air cushions, which mean that the seat’s firmness can be adjusted to the passenger’s preference.
This Business Class Lie-flat seats are also installed on the Swiss Airbus 330-300.
The only thing different on the Swiss Airbus 340 is, that they still have the old First Class seats onboard.
The new SWISS First Class seats (as shown in the images below) are only installed on Swiss’s Airbus 330-300.

To maximize passenger comfort and choice of your seat, SWISS has created a Business Class cabin configuration in which the seat rows have a 1-2-1 and a 2-2-1 configuration.
This means that there are only five seats that don’t have a direct access to an aisle.
On one side there are only single row seats.
In de middle you have 2 rows seats.
On the other side you have rows with 2 seats follow by a single seat.

If you have a single seat in these rows you have a table to your right and left.
You have an incredible space to work in these seats.
The reason for this seat setup is that the seats are placed out of line to create more space for you feet.
If the seat creates in a over 2,00 meter ( 6 feet 6 inches ) bed, you feet glide under the table in front of you and not under the seat.
Especially if you are tall, your feet will have all the space to move.
A great concept as the people from Europe are getting taller and taller.
The seats are fitted with all the latest technologies onboard, like a power charger for your laptop and reading led light.
Each seat comes with a side-panel control-unit, which controls the recline position and offers a back massage.
There are 3 pre set positions fore the seat, upright for take-off and landings, a lounge position and of course the fully Lie-flat position.
The seats are not filled with foam but with air pressure and this gives the passenger the oppertuinity to adjust the hard and softness of the seat to there own comfort.
The Business Class seats Swiss has introduced are the most comfortable seats that I have ever flown in Business Class.
Maybe also because I am tall ( 1,95 cm ) I found myself enough space to rest and even sleep.
The cabin is furbished in nice light brown colors, they might have to refurbish it more often in the feature than other colors, but the colors fit perfect with Swiss.

I was welcomed by the friendly staff and they asked me if they could hang my jacket away.
Each seat has his own hanger with seat number on it stuck in the seat in front of you
No boarding passes anymore that where used to see which jacket belonged to which passenger.

After the welcome drink, it was time to get ready for the flight.
I found the amenity kit very nice, Ear Plugs, Socks, Lip balsam  and Eye shade where presented in a tin decorated box with the Airbus 340 on top.
All the other things like a Razor, Toothbrush and Moistening Cream can be found in the washroom.

The airbus 340 throttles up there engines for the 12 hours and 25 minutes flight to Singapore.
In the near future, SWISS will replace these airbus 340’s for larger jets, most likely a choice between the Airbus 350 or the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

After take-off we where getting ready for the meal service.
The meals SWISS are serving onboard are been prepard by Gate Gourmet in Zurich.

The SWISS Taste of Switzerland menu features a different, leading Swiss chef’s dishes every three months.
The meals are served directly from a trolley and there are no standard plates served.
This gives the foodservice something special.
The dishes are well balanced and they offer plenty of variety  in choices.
At the end you will finish the meal service with, Swiss Cheese, Coffee and of course Swiss Chocolate.
The food was incredible tastfull and tasted like meals served on the ground in a luxury restaurant.
If you fly SWISS take the time for the meal service and enjoy yourself.

After the meal service it was time to watch a movie onboard there Inflight Entertainment System.
The IFE systems is a system on demand, so you start the movie when you want too.
There are lots of choices of things to see or listen onboard.
From the latest movies till the latest sports games or the latest albums from all kinds of singers can be heard through the noise reducing headphones.

I connected my Macbook to the power unit for 2 hours and finsihed my latest photo work.
It was time for some sleep as I would arrive late in the afternoon in Singapore.

2 hours before landing the cabin lights where turned on and the amazing Cabin-crew started with the breakfast service.
It tasted as great as the dinner service.
But because I was still full of the excellent Dinner service (and could not eat that much anymore) it was a light breakfast for me this time.
Fresh Orange Juice and a lovely French Croissant with Marmalade and finishing up with a cup of Coffee was enough for me.

SWISS In-flight service standards are amazing, that good and with a great personal touch.
The service by the crew is personal with a smile and as I also can speak German it was no problem for me.
All of the airline’s flight attendants speak at least two languages, but it is always nice to talk in your maiden language during the flight.

Soon it was time to fasten the seat belt for landing at Singapore’s Changi Airport and exploring Singapore.
After arriving at the gate it still takes a 30 minutes to pass immigration, customs and the train ride to the luggage collection belt.
My bag was the first one on the belt to arrive so the Business Class Priority Labels did there job.

On my return flight to Zurich, the Business Class passenger can use Singapore’s Silver Kris Lounge.
The best Lounge at Changi Airport and it serves you with all the things you need.

My return flight to Zurich was great as well but this time I would like to sleep as we departed Singapore at 23.30.

Waking up just before the landing at Zurich, I was ready for another day at work.
No jetlag but awake like you have slept in your own bed at home.

This all means that SWISS is one of the great and excellent airlines in the World.
If you want to experience something special, fly Swiss, I will sure fly them again.
